The Jungle Book

4 — The Monkey People
One day Mowgli met the Monkey People, the Bandar-log. They gave him nuts and said he was clever. They said they wanted him to be their leader. Baloo was angry. The Monkey People have no Law, he said. They talk and talk, but they never do anything. They are dirty and they have no shame. We do not play with them. But the next afternoon Mowgli was asleep under a tree, and the monkeys came down. Many hands took him by the arms and legs. They carried him high through the trees, from branch to branch, very fast. Mowgli was angry and afraid. He looked up and saw Chil the Kite in the sky. He gave the call of the birds: We be of one blood, ye and I. Tell Baloo and Bagheera where I am!
