Mowgli grew up with the wolf cubs. Father Wolf taught him about the jungle. He learned the meaning of every sound in the grass and every call in the night. Baloo taught him the Law of the Jungle and the Master Words. The Master Words are for all the people of the jungle. To the birds you say, We be of one blood, ye and I, and you whistle at the end. To the snakes you say it and hiss. Mowgli did not always want to learn. Sometimes Baloo hit him, and Mowgli ran to Bagheera and cried. He is only a little man-cub, said Bagheera. He is only a little man-cub, said Baloo, and so he must learn. Nothing is more important for him than the Master Words.
