The farmer had a daughter. She was nine years old, and she was very kind to me. She made me a little bed in a doll's box and taught me their language. I called her Glumdalclitch, which means little nurse. The farmer took me to towns and showed me to people for money. I walked on a table, drank from a thimble and waved my little sword. Every day I was more and more tired, and I got thin. Then the Queen saw me and bought me from the farmer. Glumdalclitch came to the palace with me. But life with the giants was dangerous. A monkey once carried me up to the roof, and the flies were as big as birds.
