Treasure Island

8 — The Treasure Found
A voice began to sing Flint's song out of the trees, and the pirates went white with fear. It was only Ben Gunn, but at that moment the doctor and his friends fired from the bushes, two pirates fell, and the rest ran. Ben Gunn had found the treasure months before and carried it, bar by bar, to his cave. For days we worked, breaking open the money bags and loading the coins of every country in the world into the ship. Three pirates were left alive on the island, and we left them there with food and powder and medicine. Silver got away in the night with one sack of coins and was never heard of again. We sailed home by way of Spanish America, and I have never gone back. I still hear the parrot in my sleep, crying "Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight!"
