Mrs Darling had kept the nursery window open all that time, though she was told the children would never come back. They came back. The lost boys were adopted by the Darlings, and they went to school and grew into quite ordinary men. Peter would not stay. He came for Wendy once a year to do the spring cleaning, and then he forgot for a long time. Wendy grew up. When Peter came again she was a married woman, and he sat on the floor and cried.
