The wolf came to the little house. He knocked on the door. "Who is there?" called the grandmother. "It is Little Red Riding Hood," said the wolf in a soft voice. "Lift the latch and come in," said the grandmother. The wolf opened the door and ran inside. He swallowed the grandmother in one bite. But the wolf was still hungry. He wanted to eat the little girl too. Then he put on her clothes and got into her bed. He pulled the blanket up to his nose and waited. Soon the girl arrived at the house. The door was open, so she walked in. Something felt wrong, but she did not know what. She went to the bed and looked at her grandmother. "Grandmother, what big ears you have!" she said. "The better to hear you, my dear," said the wolf. "Grandmother, what big eyes you have!" "The better to see you, my dear." "Grandmother, what big teeth you have!" "The better to eat you!" cried the wolf. He jumped out of the bed and swallowed the girl. Now the wolf was full, so he lay down and fell asleep. He began to snore very loudly. A hunter was walking past the house. He heard the loud snores and stopped. "Why is the old woman snoring so loudly?" he thought. He went into the house to look. He saw the wolf asleep on the bed. He knew that the wolf had eaten the grandmother. "So here you are, you bad wolf!" he said. He took a big knife and cut open the wolf. Out jumped Little Red Riding Hood, and then her grandmother. Both of them were alive and well. The grandmother was weak, so she sat down and rested. The girl gave her the bread and cake from the basket. Soon the grandmother felt well again. They thanked the hunter again and again. The hunter smiled and went home. Little Red Riding Hood was very happy. She said to herself, "I will never leave the path again." And from that day, she never did.
