Goldilocks was still tired. She went up the stairs to find a place to sleep. There she found a bedroom with three beds. First she lay down on the big bed. "This bed is too hard!" she said. Then she lay down on the middle bed. "This bed is too soft!" she said. Then she lay down on the small bed. "This bed is just right!" she said. Soon she fell fast asleep. The little bed was soft and warm, and she slept well. A little later, the three bears came home. They opened the door and went inside. They were hungry, and they wanted their breakfast. But they saw at once that something was wrong. The great big father bear looked at his bowl. "Who has eaten my porridge?" he said in a big, deep voice. The middle-sized mother bear looked at her bowl. "Who has eaten my porridge?" she said in a soft voice. Then the tiny baby bear looked at his bowl. "Who has eaten my porridge, and eaten it all up?" he cried in a little voice. The three bears looked at their chairs. "Who has been sitting in my chair?" said the father bear. "Who has been sitting in my chair?" said the mother bear. "Who has been sitting in my chair, and broken it?" cried the baby bear. Then the three bears went up the stairs to the bedroom. "Who has been sleeping in my bed?" said the father bear. "Who has been sleeping in my bed?" said the mother bear. "Who has been sleeping in my bed, and here she is!" cried the baby bear. Goldilocks woke up and saw the three bears. She was very frightened. Her heart beat fast, and she did not know what to do. She jumped out of the bed and ran to the window. The window was open, so she jumped down into the garden. Then she ran away into the woods as fast as she could. She did not stop, and she did not look back. And the three bears never saw her again.
