One day, the North Wind and the Sun had a fight. "I am strong," said the North Wind. "I am stronger than you." The Sun only smiled. "No," it said. "I am stronger than you." They could not agree. So they looked down at the road. A man was walking there. He had a warm coat. "Look at that man," said the Sun. "He has a coat. Who can take it off? That one is stronger. You can try first." "That is easy," said the North Wind. The North Wind began to blow. He blew hard and cold. The trees bent and the grass shook. The man felt the cold wind. Soon he began to shiver. But he did not take off his coat. He pulled it close around him. The Wind blew again. He blew harder and colder. Now it was a cold, hard storm. But the man held his coat tight. He did not let it go. At last the Wind was tired, and he stopped. The coat was still on the man. "Now it is my turn," said the Sun. The Sun came out from behind a cloud. It began to shine. The sky was warm and bright. The air was warm too. The man felt the warm sun on his back. He walked on, and soon he felt hot. The Sun shone more and more. The day grew very warm. The man wiped his face. Now the man was too hot. He stopped under a tree. "What a hot day!" he said. Then he took off his coat and carried it in his hand. The Sun smiled at the North Wind. "You see," said the Sun. "The man took off his coat himself." Kind words can do more than anger. A warm heart is stronger than cold force.
